Enrofloxacin is used as an animal medicine. It has a relatively long half-life in animals and has relatively good tissue distribution. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. It is mainly used as an antibacterial agent in aquatic products and livestock and poultry. It mainly blocks the replication of bacterial DNA, thereby having antibacterial effects.
Enrofloxacin is used for the prevention and control of 6 diseases
1. Bacterial respiratory diseases: contagious pleuropneumonia, Haemophilus parasuis, pneumonia, Streptococcus, parasuis and other diseases;
2. Gastrointestinal diseases: colibacillosis (piglet yellow and white scour, edema disease), salmonellosis, Treponema hyodysenteriae, Leptospira.
3. Genitourinary system: urethritis, cystitis; sow mastitis-metritis-agalactia syndrome;
4. Skin diseases: exudative dermatitis, necrotrophic bacilli, etc.;
5. Bacterial infections secondary to viral diseases: such as paraswine, streptococcus, epierythrozoonosis, etc.;
6. Various mycoplasmal diseases: porcine asthma, porcine synovial fluid mycoplasma infection, and nasal mycoplasma infection.
Enrofloxacin in combination
In order to avoid the development of drug resistance and improve its efficacy, combined drugs can be used, such as enrofloxacin and β-lactam antibiotics (such as Amoxicillin, Penicillin), aminoglycoside antibiotics (Gentamicin,Neomycin, etc.) and tetracyclines (Doxycycline, Oxytetracycline) have additive or synergistic effects when combined. For example, the combination of enrofloxacin injection and amoxicillin powder injection can improve its efficacy and expand the antibacterial spectrum.
Precautions for use
1. Enrofloxacin has poor palatability and is not suitable for administration in drinking water. Oral administration to pigs must be coated enrofloxacin, otherwise it will be wasted and the pigs will not eat it.
2. Avoid single long-term use. It is recommended to use it alternately with other drugs or in combination with other drugs to reduce the development of drug resistance.
3. High doses are prone to side effects. It is contraindicated in pigs that are sensitive to enrofloxacin (especially early-age piglets). Before administering intramuscular injection to large groups of young pigs, it is advisable to give it to 1-2 pigs for trial first and strictly control the dosage.
4. Enrofloxacin has antagonistic effects with macrolide antibiotics, florfenicol, etc.;
